The City of Taunton through the capital improvement program allocated Bristol County ARPA funding for infastructure improvements to the City's drinking water system and replaced approximately 200,000 square feet of floating cover and 200,000 square feet of liner at the City's Prospect Hill Reservoir. In addition to the improvements made to the cover, two large valves that control flow from the reservoirs into the system were replaced.
The Prospect Hill Reservoir is a two bay reservoir that holds the finished water delivered from the City's water treatment plant for distribution into the water system. Federal law requires that when finished water is stored in reservoirs that they be covered so no external matter can enter into the water, i.e. birds, debris, etc. The reservoir system is a permitted dam by the state. The improvements made to Prospect Hill Reservoir addressed critical infrastructure needs, ensured the City remains in compliance with regulators, and continues to provide clean, healthy water to Taunton residents.
